Our preferred candidates will have experience in housing and/or working with youth.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Work or CYW is an asset.

About our Housing Team
Our Housing Team are the individuals who power our Housing First Program, which helps people with the greatest level of need find affordable rental housing. We work with people who have been chronically homeless and have a significant mental health and/or addiction concern.
Housing First Workers also provide these clients with weekly advocacy and support for up to three years. We connect people with other programs such as mental health and addiction services. Our goal is to help maintain the tenancy and reduce issues of safety and security for people who are chronically homeless.
FSWE is a member of Windsor-Essex Housing Connections (WEHC), a partnership of agencies who work together to help people find affordable, rental housing and end the cycle of homelessness.
About the Roles
Outreach Workers
As an Outreach Worker, your contribution to the team will include:
- Conduct outreach efforts to identify and connect with homeless individuals/families that require assistance
- Meet with potential clients, assess, and determine the appropriate housing response to an individual’s or family’s request for support, services, and accommodations to resolve housing needs
- Working in cooperation with other community services to identify needs of individuals receiving support, and making appropriate referrals following the principles of user self-determination
- Advocate along with, or on behalf of, people whose rights to services, or opportunities may actually or potentially be comprised. This includes advising people of their choices and/or rights and responsibilities and/or potential consequences

Integrated Support Team Workers
As an Integrated Support Team (IST) Worker your contribution to the team will include:
- Provide outreach, case management, counseling, advocacy, and other needed services to clients in several environments including: their homes, the community, shelters, prisons, hospitals, offices, etc.
- Provide individually tailored services to each client (i.e. housing access, independent living skills, vocational guidance, appointment escorts, and integrated substance use treatment)
- Assist clients to set up a basic budget, including preparing budgets and computing expenses
- Coordinate and monitor referrals to community services, and advocate client participation in them
- Conduct housing searches and build inventory lists of available housing units for candidates
- Liaise with property managers, landlords, realtors and other sources of identify and secure vacant properties for client placement
- Assertively engage with clients to secure housing including unit rental, damage deposits, securing income assistance if required, setting up of utilities, signing of leases, and arranging for furnishings and household items to establish their homes
- Educate, inform and advocate for clients regarding benefits, entitlements and tenancy-related responsibilities
- Maintain written and computerized records, compile reports and complete other program documentation

Housing Support Worker
As a Housing Support Worker your contribution to the team will include:
- Communicate effectively with clients including active listening and problem solving
- Monitor client activities and provide effective intervention in crisis situations

Youth Worker
As a Youth Worker your contribution to the team will include:
- Supporting youth ages 16-24 to obtain and maintain safe and affordable housing
- Supporting youth to access education and/or employment training
- Using assessment and problem solving skills to create a joint plan with clients to address on-going concerns.
- Offering support, coaching and education to youth
- Advocating for and developing plans to improve a young person’s well-being.
- Responding efficiently and effectively to the sensitive nature of the concerns using excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Working in collaboration with other community agencies to provide support to youth
- Maintaining case notes and confidential information, using database software.
