Accessibility

Family Services Windsor-Essex is supportive of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and its objective of achieving accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities with respect to services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises.

As such, we are committed to identifying, removing and preventing barriers that clients, employees, and members of the public may face when interacting with us.
This work is guided by our Accessibility Framework and Multi-Year Workplan that outlines our vision that all clients, employees, and members of the public are provided with a barrier-free environment that supports the dignity of everyone.

FSWE’s Accessibility Framework and Multi-Year Workplan outlines our current efforts to eliminate accessibility barriers. Current highlights include:

  • All staff must take an Accessibility Course during their staff orientation. This ensures accessibility is at the forefront of information, education, and awareness for all.
  • Continually evaluating the agency’s grounds to adjust uneven paving and address any additional accessibility concerns as they arise.
  • Parking spots for persons with disabilities are available. There is no parking charge for these spots.
  • A TTY telephone to support the deaf and hearing impaired is available in the lobbies of both hospital campuses and Interpreter Services are available for our multi-linguistic community through translation services.
  • Our website uses accessiBe, a web accessibility solution that supports easier navigation and use, while our online documents are remediated by Allyant, an accessibility service provider specializing in making digital documents compatible with assistive technologies.
  • FSWE uses Remote Interpretation Ontario (RIO), which provides staff with on-demand access to certified interpreters in over a hundred languages.

We continue to strive to improve our accessibility for our clients, visitors, and staff.
